Supercon, Inc. has been manufacturing superconducting wire longer than any other company in the world. Our modern manufacturing facility in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts was specifically built for the production of composite metal wire products. We are actively involved in the research, development and production of all types of low temperature superconductors. Standard Supercon products include both niobium-titanium and niobium-tin superconducting wires.
At Supercon, we have been developing and manufacturing superconducting materials for over 35 years. Our leadership in product development has been recognized four times with the receipt of R&D 100 Awards for technical innovation. Supercon’s products are not limited to the standards described in this brochure. Custom conductors designed specifically to meet the requirements of your particular application are always available. Special products include: CuMn and aluminum stabilized conductors; Rutherford and Litz cables; shaped conductors; bulk forms of NbTi; and fine wires as small as 0.001 inch in diameter, to name a few.
Supercon has supplied high quality superconducting wire to most of the major accelerator projects as well as all types of commercial magnet applications. These contributions include: the Fermi Bubble Chamber, the Fermilab Tevatron, the Brookhaven RHIC, the SSC Dipole string test magnets, and the SSC Corrector magnet wire. Commercially, Supercon supplies wires for a wide range of applications, including: high field nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectrometers, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) magnets; superconducting magnetic storage (SMES) magnets; alternating current magnets, and a wide range of other research magnets.
